La Boca

La Boca, one of the most colouring places of the city, reflects the influence of european citizens, especially italians, who arrived to the country in the years 1860 and 1970. It is also called “La Píccola Italia”, offering traditional restaurants on a mediterranean style.
The architucture points out houses built on zinc and painting with a variation of strong colors giving an own stylish stamp to the neighbourhood that was composed by i’s origin of workers and poor people. Inmigrants arrived with no money at all and as they weren’t able to buy resources to built their houses, they asked to the shipyards for the remainings of painting that wouldn’t be used. This tradition has given to the architectural sight of La Boca the popular components exposed in our days.

San Telmo

San Telmo neighbourhood is one of the most typical sights of Buenos Aires City. It used to be populated by aristocratic families until they were busted by the yellow fever epidemic in 1871. It was born in the sorroundings of the old port that the city had and received the impact of the inmigrants arrival of the XIX century changing completely the aspects of the streets. The huge houses of the high class habitants turned into conventillos, where many poor families gathered to live. This foreigners, dedicated to handcraft and commerce for living, started printing their customs to the place which since then characterized the streets with mercantilist movements and fairs. In 1970, San Telmo became a top neighbourhood to live and most of the hundread year old houses were rebuilt and declared Historical National Patrimony of the City.

Recoleta

   

A charmful and high rated area of Buenos Aires with french style, huge green spaces, exclusive avenues and first class restaurants. This neighbourhood used to be part of big farms and country houses which, in the XVII century were given to the Recoletos Fathers. Appart from its name, the religious built a monastery and the Pilar Church in 1706 which gave an important push to the development of the place.
It is said that this neighbourhood looks like an extracted piece of Paris. Has an important cultural move with green spaces dedicated to art and during the weekends, along Junin street and Quintana avenue, a huge handcraft fair takes place. The night happenings are considered top sights with night clubs and restaurants along the sorroundings of the Recoleta Cemetery.

 

Puerto Madero

The last architectural and most modern tendency of the city located along the river side where the old docks that in the past were used as warehouses of the port have been recycled as charming offices and luxurious restaurants. Puerto Madero also has five stars hotels and huge Movies Villages. Recommended Sights: The National Shool Army Ship which arrived from England in 1898 and The Corveta Uruguay Museum that arrrived in 1874 considered the oldest of the argentinian Army.

 

Monserrat

Palacio de CongresoMonserrat was the first neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. Its name was legally approved in 1769 when the Parish of Our Lady of Monserrat was built. Great part of the country's history is reflected through the buildings, monuments and master pieces of this location.

Among the places to visit must be mentioned: the Plaza de Mayo, hystorical set of the most political relevant happenings of the country where the Mayo Pyramid, first monument of the year 1811, was built in commemoration of the 1810 Revolution. The House of Government, named “Casa Rosada” where the National Executive Command takes place and the Cabildo, a hystorical museum of the year 1725, birth of the government of the city. The Metropolitan Cathedral, a neoclasic building of the XVII century where the mausoleum of the General San Martin is set. The Plaza of Congreso with the monument to the “Two Congresses” and in front of it the Congress Palace of 1906 where Senators and Representatives sessions take place. Then, Corrientes Avenue, the traditional and famous street because of the old and trendy theatres, lybraries and movie screenings. The Colon Theatre built in the year 1908, an italian building recognized worldwide for its exellent acustic and considered the hughest and best lyric theatre of Latin America. The 9 de Julio Avenue, the largest avenue of the world, takes as name the date of the Independece of the country which took place in 1816 and joins the famous train station Retiro and Constitución. Underneath this avenue runs the “C” line subway. The Obelisco, which dates of 1936, icon of the city, it was built to commemorate the 400 years of the first spanish establishment in the Rio de la Plata.
Shoppings

Galerías Pacífico – Av. Córdoba y Florida

This mall is located in a very old building that used to belong to a state company of trains, Ferrocarriles Argentinos. Fortunately, the murals painted by Raúl Soldi have been kept together with the architectural styles of its century. Inside, Borge's Cultural Centre offers various exhibitions and activities and Julio Bocca's Ballet School has also been established in this Mall.
Movie screenings, a charmful food floor, more than 200 stores, tea saloons and first class restaurants turn out to be an exclusive place to spend the day.

Abasto – Av. Corrientes 3247

 

The Abasto of Buenos Aires it's one of the most representative buildings of the city. By the end of the XIX century it used to be the first fruit and vegetable market provider. Albert Einstein was stunned by its huge size and originality of the structure. The Deco styles of the Market were kept as the original construction and a lightning system was specifically designed to lighten the archs and walls of the building. The neighbourhood dates the birth of the tango having Carlos Gardel among their inhabitants.

Paseo La Plaza – Av. Corrientes 1660

The Paseo La Plaza, located on the traditional Corrientes Avenue, its a theatre complex where the last and most important opennings of plays take place. Inside, handcraft of the country, music stores and drugstores offer a variation of shopping alternatives as well as the gastronomy floor, music and tango which display sorrounded by palms and tiny streets to walk along.

Patio Bullrich – Posadas 1246

Its openning dates as one of the first shopping malls in the year 1988, a recycled building which used to be an old meat market, furnished with a clasic style while leaving the original old clock in the center of the structure and scultures representing the cattle heads. It is located around embassies, theatres and luxurious hotels. 80 stores with national and international prestigious designers, six movie screening rooms and a gastronomy offer with capacity for 800 people.

 

Alto Palermo – Arenales 3360 –

Openned in 1990, Alto Palermo is the central shopping place. Its architecture was awarded by the International Shopping Centre Council. Three floors decorated with marble, wood and ceramics, housing more than 200 stores, cyber coffee shops, parking, musical shows, two screening rooms, beauty centres and food floor with a capacity for 750 people.

Solar de la Abadía – Arce 940

Located in the Recoleta neighbourhood, it is the trendy meeting place for furnishers and the last outstanding young designers of the market. The enormous park, Museums, Cultural Centre and the Fair of the weekends make it the favourite place chosen by tourists. 60 stores spread along by an spectacular view from the Hard Rock Café with the mediterranean and ethnic gastronomy proposals of the food floor.
